When I asked Sarah to open her fridge for us, she was slightly horrified, likening it to the food equivalent of a no-makeup selfie. But Sarah has a giant bowl of cookie dough in her fridge, which seems like a dream fridge to me. Thankfully she agreed to reveal all. Before we begin, can I please state for the record that I HATE this fridge? I hate it. But alas, I am just a poor blogger of 23 years old, and I don’t think I’ll be getting a new one any time soon. This is the fridge that my boyfriend’s parents very kindly handed-down to us when we moved out together, and we’ve had it ever since. But for someone who’s entire world revolves around food, this fridge is just about 1000% too small. And the shelves are cracked. It’s a nightmare.
What’s in your fridge?
As you can see, not much! This is due firstly to the fact that you can’t fit much in there at the best of times, and secondly because I am one of those people who seem to cook all the time, and yet never have anything to eat. So at the moment, I have a drawer full of oranges, apples, half a purple cabbage and a leek, a bowlful of cookie dough (for ), and a big pan of leftover baked pasta. Oh, and about a million different condiments. And bacon.
What 5 things do you make sure are always in your fridge?
Here’s the dream answer: parmesan, lemons, butter, fresh herbs and eggs.
Here’s the real answer: 50 kinds of jam, bacon, coffee, pickles, 20 kinds of mustard.
If you were hungry right now, what would you open for the fridge and reach for?
I don’t want to gross you out, but pickled onions! My mum made me some pickled onions and they’re really delicious! My dad got me hooked on them as a snack when I was a kid. Otherwise a stolen scoop of raw cookie dough, obviously.
What’s the strangest thing currently in your fridge?
See above re: pickled onions.
What’s your go-to meal with the ingredients usually found in your fridge?
If I didn’t just eat that leftover baked pasta, it would be a toss-up between a (kind of healthy), some (very healthy) or an (not healthy at all).
How would you describe your grocery shopping style?
Very list-oriented. For three reasons: one because I really try and stick to a budget, two because I have to make sure I get the ingredients for my blog posts, and three because my boyfriend is wired that way.
Do eggs belong in or out of the fridge?
When it’s Winter, definitely out of the fridge. But when it’s Summer up in Queensland it’s got to be inside the fridge I’m afraid.
